Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are  effective.

The safeguarding team fulfil   their role conscientiously. Together with the staff, they are committed to ensuring that the children in their care are kept safe.

Ofsted 2018

Safeguarding children and young people is everyone’s responsibility.
The Governing board and staff of Hunslet Carr Primary School take as our first priority the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of our children, to minimise risk and to work together with other agencies to ensure rigorous arrangements are in place within our school to identify, assess, and support those children who are suffering harm and to keep them safe and secure both in and out of our care.

The Governing Board keep these policies under regular review. They ensure the Head Teacher provides termly updates on safeguarding as part of the report to Governors. The Governing Board has appointed Paul Wray as the named Governor for Child Protection who is overseen by Jon Hairsine, Chair of Governors.  Our named governor for Children Looked After  (CLA)  is Clare Davidson.

All staff, governors and volunteers are trained in Child Protection, which is regularly updated throughout the year with in-house training, bulletins, briefings, quizzes and policy updates.

Along with the Headteacher, our school has a Safeguarding Team which consists of Andy Hinchcliffe who is the Lead Child Protection Officer and works alongside designated staff member Polly Sidebottom and Elisa Whitfield. This safeguarding team receive enhanced child protection training at least every two years, and keep their knowledge up to date with other thematic training, articles and networking.

Other staff complement our safeguarding expertise;
Charlie Sharpe who leads on building risk assessments and ensuring our physical site is safe for the children and staff and  Educational Visits Coordinator making sure all trips are properly risk assessed and safe.

Elaine Boyce and Donna Bedlow who lead on pupil risk assessments (IPRA) alongside the Safeguarding Team to ensure that we are able to effectively keep all children and staff safe.

The Inclusion team and Safeguarding team oversee Intimate care plans within school to ensure that we protect both children and staff carrying out vital intimate care procedures.

In this day and age, childrens’   online safety    is extremely important and children at Hunslet Carr Primary School are taught how to keep safe when using the internet. We provide lessons, advice and tips on how to support your children and their parents/carers about how to stay safe online,  including online gaming and when using social media. See our   Safeguarding recommended  links  page for more information.

As part of all our safeguarding roles in school, we have a duty of care to ensure that our children and young people are supported after any incidents of domestic violence and abuse. The   domestic violence and abuse   school notification project    which we are part of, has been designed to provide confidential notification to schools on any incidents of domestic violence and abuse which occur within a child’s household that might have an impact on a child whilst they are in school. After an incident has been reported, someone from the Safeguarding Team is usually notified the same or following day.

We also have a duty to safeguard children from      radicalisation and extremism.   This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or violence.

We are committed to helping all our families especially when they need support for whatever reason. Our main aim is the protection and safeguarding of our children and young people.

In February 2020, the school had a   safeguarding  audit   from the Local Authority.  We’re very proud to say the feedback was really positive and some of our practice and evidence was described as   ‘exemplary’!
