School Council News:

We hope that you had a great week off and enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations. We had a street party picnic on the last day before we broke up to celebrate and it was brilliant!

Since last term we have been recording our very own Newsround. We are all becoming a lot more confident when speaking in front of the camera; especially the younger members of the School Council.

Every month the School Council members in their classes take over part of the Circle Time lesson. We think this is great because everyone in school now gets their opinions heard, such as whether they like school dinners or not. We are looking forward to hearing what the stars and wishes are this month.

Thank you for reading, Isabelle and Armandas.

This week the children fed back what their classes told them in Circle Time. Some great feedback. The school love their school dog, Arlo, inspirational visitors (such as Liam Cooper) and all the exciting lessons they have.

This week the School Council met to discuss their part in Circle Time. We practised how our part in the lesson would run. We are finding out what our classes like and would want to change in our school.
Holly, in Year 2, also shared her news about her sponsored walk.

School Council News:
We hope that you had a lovely Easter holiday and lots of chocolate! I've already had three Easter eggs (Carson). We are really happy that the sun is finally starting to shine every morning, making us happy and ready to come into school.

This term we are going to be looking at re-introducing our playground buddies and launching our very own SC Newsround (coming soon!)

Thank you for reading,
Isabelle and Carson.

School Council News:
What a February! It was the best month! We got to meet Liam Cooper then two weeks later we took over the school with the rest of the School Council and Year 6.
Liam Cooper's visit was very special to us and the whole school. He showed us that Impossible really is Nothing! It was fantastic hearing about how resilient he is. Liam Cooper is an inspiration to all of us at Hunslet Carr!
Everyone enjoyed Takeover Day; it was so much fun. It was great seeing all the children taking on different roles around the school such as teachers, dinner staff and sport leaders. We personally enjoyed leading the Star Assemblies with Mr Lumb.
We hope March is going to be just as busy!

Thank you for reading,
Isabelle and Carson.

School Council News:
So far this year, thing have been a little quiet. What with COVID it is hard for us all to work with each other as we are trying to keep mixing between year groups down.
However, February is going to be the month where things start to get busy for the school councillors.
On Wednesday, 9th Feb, Mr Lumb and Miss Roberts will be taking us around the local streets near school to pick up litter and make our community a nicer place to be.
Towards the end of the month we will be taking over the school for a day. The school council will come dressed as the Headteacher, Assistant Heads, Teachers, Caretakers, Office Staff and Dinner Staff.
While Carson and I will be dressing up as Mr Lumb, the school counsellors who are teachers will be teaching lessons that day on the importance of looking after your mental health. We can’t wait!
We are also excited about another project that is happening in school and looking forward to letting you know more about it during next month’s newsletter.

School Council News
Hello,

The whole of School Council have now been elected and if you come into school you will see everyone proudly wearing their badges. During our first meeting our Head Boy, Carson, brought up the important issue of Climate Change and what we, as a school and community, can do to help our local and wider environment. This is an area which everyone on the council is passionate about therefore something we will be addressing this year. Look out for further information about this as we have lots of ideas!

School Council Meeting
3.11.21

A great first meeting of the School Council. Every member introduced themselves and told the other members an interesting fact. We are looking forward to a busy year with our agenda filling up after one session!

Our Head Boy, Carson, raised the important issue of Climate Change and how we, as a school, can help the environment. We talked about recycling and decided this was the way we could make sure that we are doing our bit properly. A few ideas to engage children (and staff!) about this important issue was to tell their classes when they returned, prepare and present an assembly, hold another Takeover Day and have the main focus as Climate Change and what we can do to help.

Please come back and find out how much progress we have made with this! We are very excited about tackling our first major issue.

School Council News
We would like to introduce ourselves as the newly elected Head Girl and Head Boy this year. We are Isabelle Naylor and Carson Ellis. All the candidates did really well and the speeches can be viewed on our website.
We are excited about representing our school and everyone in it! Now that we have been elected we will be having our first meeting with the whole of the School Council where we will decide what we are focusing on this year. We have lots of ideas which will be shared with you in the next newsletter and on our section of the school website.
 Thank you,
Isabelle and Carson.

The votes have now been counted and we would like to introduce you to our new Head Boy and Girl and our Deputy Head Boy and Girl.

On the School Council’s first agenda we need to elect the new Head Boy and Head Girl. As a school council we will be working to support children in Year 6 to write their speeches and record them ready to try to earn people’s votes.

This year because of COVID-19 we had to hold our elections for Head Girl and Boy in a very different way. First of all, we had to wait until the children were in school and in Year 6. Then we couldn't go to the hall to give our candidate speeches, so we filmed them and put them on the school's Youtube Channel. After that, all the children voted in their classrooms and sent the results through to Ms Roberts who then filmed the results with Mr Lumb. The whole school then watched the Youtube videos to see the results.
You can see the videos we are talking about by following the links below.

Unfortunately, at this moment in time, our school council haven't been able to meet or make the school better through our ideas, but we hope that changes soon.
School Council News
We have finally had our first School Council meeting. All the members received their badges and we discussed the upcoming final months of this academic year.

Firstly, Jamie explained his involvement in a governor's meeting all about his experiences in lockdown. Well done Jamie for speaking so well!

Members of the school council have been trying to persuade Mr Lumb to get a school dog. He listened to the powerful arguments put forward and at the moment is getting all the necessary information he needs to be able to make a decision. The dog would need to live at the house of one of the teachers and it would need time in the day to go for walks, so it is not as easy as just saying yes, but here on the council we all have our fingers crossed.

Over the coming weeks we are going to be concentrating on our upcoming Election Day to elect the new Head Boy and Head Girl.

School Council News:
We are writing this on World Book Day.

So far, we have had a great day and have loved seeing all of the costumes everyone is wearing!

I (Abigial) am Miss Petula Perpetual-Motion from The World’s Worst Children by David Walliams and Sonnie is dressed as Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.

One of our jobs today, is to go around school and choose the best dressed children from each class and the children who have painted and decorated their potato the best. These children will be announced in the Star Assembly on 6th March and get £5 to spend on new books!

This term we are going to start Playground Buddies as this was one of the things that James Tully (the head boy) promised in his election speech last July. We look forward to updating you on this.

Thank you for reading,

Abigail and Sonnie (in James’ absence).

School Council News:
Wow, can’t believe it’s February already!
In our last newsletter we told you about the Leeds Youth Summit and tree planting.
Youth Summit
This was a great experience for us! We went with Ruby and Sonnie. We experienced lots of different cool activities that are available to children out of school. There are so many! We have decided to let you know about all of these that you can do and we will be sending our first School Council letter about these.
Tree planting
The School Council planted trees with Cllr Paul Wray last Thursday. Although it was cold it was a good experience to learn about how to help our planet by doing our little bit in Hunslet. We planted 8 trees!

Thank you for reading,
Abigail and James.

Thursday 23rd January
Tree Planting and First Meeting of 2020.

The SC were invited to plant trees at Leasowe field by our school governor and Cllr Paul Wray.
SC were met by a conservation volunteer who spoke about the climate emergency and what Leeds City Council are doing about it.
SC helped plant some tree saplings. They all worked hard as a team and took it in turns to have a go.
Following the tree planting SC held their first meeting. During this we shared our introductions, discussed SC rules, the Heads and Deputies fed back about their trip to the Youth Summit then we voted on bringing Playground Buddies back. The SC voted unanimously to bring  Playground Buddies back and we looked at how we would go about this. We will be discussing this in our next meeting.

Annual Youth Summit
Elland Road, Wednesday 22nd January

Hunslet Carr were invited to the annual Youth Summit at Elland Road. The focus this year was on the Health and Wellbeing of young people in the local community.

The Head Boy and Girl along with the Deputies, represented the school and the School Council by taking part in a range of activities available in the community. Some of these activities included: drama, the climate emergency (tree planting initiative), healthy eating, inflatables,  sports groups and mind mate. They were brilliant!
The children then had a vote for what activities they would like to see more of around Leeds after school, at weekends and in the school  holidays. The activity which received the most votes was inflatables
They had a great day and enjoyed feeding back to the SC in our first meeting.

School Council News:
Happy New Year from James and Abigail!  We hope you had a good holiday.

We are looking forward to working with Mrs Earnshaw again! One of our first jobs is to go to the Inner South Leeds Community Youth Summit at Elland Road. We are going to be meeting other School Council members from different schools and improve the health and wellbeing in our local community. We can’t wait to meet other pupils, listen to their ideas and learn what they are doing in their School Councils.

We are also looking forward to working with Cllr Paul Wray, planting trees at Leasowe Recreation Ground on Thursday 23rd January.  Anyone can help, so if you are free and want to help the community, come and join us there.

Thanks for reading!
James and Abigail, your Head Boy and Head Girl.

Head Boy and Head Girl

Hi this is Abigail the Head Girl, along with Ruby and Sonnie the deputies. This is the second week of the school council performing our duties. This week we have been writing paragraphs that describe us,   to be put on display, on the wall in the hall. These will be placed alongside our photos. We have also been having meetings. In the meetings, we decided on the charity we would like to donate to. We all had a vote on the one charity we would like to raise money for. The most popular ones were Dementia Society, Cancer Research UK and Save the Children. If you have an idea on a charity, you would like us to consider, please make sure to contact the school.

Hi, this is Abigail the Head Girl of Hunslet Carr along with Sonnie the Deputy Head Boy.
We are here today to tell you what we have being doing since the beginning of the school year. Last week we went around the school to find out about our    brand new school counselors and we were very pleased with the selection they have chosen this year. They all seem happy and eager to go! The first job assigned to us was from a person at Leeds Beckett University. She was hoping we would encourage our parents complete an online assessment about how healthy our community is. Here is the link:

School Council News

School Council 2018-19
20.05.2019
We had a rather unusual topic to discuss in our School Council Meeting today - dog poo. Yes you heard it right! The SC are going to make posters and  dispensers to put outside school, to encourage people to pick up and if they do not have a bag, they can take a free one on us.

28.02.2019
What a brilliant morning we have had! Today, we gathered in the school entrance ready and excited   about   our visit to Woodhouse Hill Community Centre.  We had been asked by Rachel Benn, from the   South Leeds Library services, to come along and join their monthly meeting with the Hunslet Memory   Group. This lovely   group of people meet and share memories of their time in Hunslet, whilst enjoying a   cup of tea and   biscuits. This worthwhile experience is one of the many events organised in conjunction   with the South Leeds Live at Home Scheme. HCPS School Council was invited  to share current   memories, and to find out how things have changed since they were at our school. As the pictures   show, we had a great time. We   listened carefully and sat respectfully; we were a credit to the school.
After   sharing lots of   interesting   stories, we had a quick drink of juice, ate a tasty biscuit and said our   goodbyes. We are looking   forward to   seeing them again in the future.

School Council News
Hello everyone,
We went to the Woodhill Grange Care home to meet the residents and discuss what their childhoods   were like and listen to their interesting stories about school life and different points in history. We had an   opportunity to tell them what our school day looks like too. We really enjoyed meeting them and some   of their stories made us laugh!
We are looking forward to dressing up for World Book day and can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes.
Yours sincerely,
Leah-Megan and Haruna

School Council News:
So far we are having a great start to 2019 and we have a lot to look forward to. In school we   have been working on how to link up our House Point System with the Traffic Light programme   we have on our computer screens in the classroom. We want to work with the company who   makes the computer programme to try and get them to be able to change it so it counts the   House Points too.
Towards the end of the month we will be visiting the Hunslet Carr Community Centre to meet a   group of people who are suffering from memory loss. We are really excited about meeting the   people and talking about what life would have been like for them when they were children.   We hope you’ve had a good start to the year.
Thank you for reading,
Leah Megan and Haruna

 Tuesday 21.01.2019
Today, we had our first school council meeting of the year. Everyone turned up ready and   excited about the challenges ahead. As it was Ms Williams's first council meeting we   introduced ourselves and shared all of the great things we did before Christmas. This included   Takeover Day, interviewing prospective staff and collecting books for our library. This term,   we will help Mr Lumb revitalize our school Houses and find a way to collect tokens, as well as   Trackit points. We will also be looking at playground equipment, so watch this space...

 School Council News
Welcome to another newsletter with you Head Boy, Haruna and your Head Girl, Leah-Megan. On
Takeover Day we really enjoyed being Mr Lumb and taking the assemblies and helping in the   dinner hall. All   of the   children who had jobs really enjoyed dressing up as that person and being in   charge for the day. During our Anti-Bullying week all of the boys and girls learnt how to be good   friends, how to stop bullying and how to help someone if they are getting bullied. We really enjoyed talking to the parents on open morning when we showed you what we have been learning in class.   Since Christmas is just around the corner, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and   a Happy   New Year! We hope you have a lovely holiday and make sure you all stay safe.

School Council News
We have had a busy half-term and those involved all enjoyed their first interview. We especially liked   talking to Mr Lumb about our morning with the candidates.
During a council meeting we came up with three names for the 'house'. We will let you know these as   soon as we can! The names will be used on Takeover Day when we have a whole school vote on which   name we prefer.   Takeover Day is November 30th and we are really looking forward to taking over the school!
 Thanks for reading
Leah-Megan and Haruna

Tuesday 16th October
Today we took up Mr Lumbs challenge of naming the 'house' in the school grounds after it's   restructure. We took a tour of the 'house' and found out that a 'house' in an incorrect name. There   are   no bedrooms or front rooms! Upstairs there are offices where the inclusion team work and   downstairs there is a big meeting room and a Nurture room.
