School Governors

Welcome to Hunslet Carr Primary School

At Hunslet Carr Primary School we are very fortunate to have a dedicated team of governors who are skilled in their role. We believe that effective school governance is at the centre of a good school and we do all we can to promote and develop our governors through our work across the school.

Our governing body consists of fourteen governors, and they serve a term of office for four years although this can be shorter if they wish. The main aim of our governors is to ensure that school provides the best education possible to its children and to improve standards.

Children are at the heart of everything we do at Hunslet Carr Primary School and we work hard to make sure that all our children believe that they can be anything they want to be. We hope that they are excited and curious about the world around them and develop the life skills they will need to be happy, successful, confident and resilient young people.

Our school has a community feel, and it is our vision that all young people at Hunslet Carr Primary School will have High Expectations, be Caring, have Positive Attitudes and be Successful.  Our children benefit greatly from the strong partnerships and sense of common purpose which the school has developed with our governors, parents, local schools and the community.

You may already be familiar with who we are and what we do, but if you would like more information, please click on the links below to find out more or contact us through the school office on 0113 2713804.

Governors’ News
Dear all

Yesterday, I spent some time in a secondary school, where I'm also a governor. I was part of a governors' panel reviewing situations where pupils were at risk of permanent exclusion. This is not the most enjoyable part of being a governor but it is important that we check schools are being fair, and are offering enough help.

I'm glad to say that it is incredibly rare for such panels to be needed in primary schools as good as Hunslet Carr. However, I do think that there is part of my experience yesterday that is worth sharing with you all. What I see during such reviews is that children are most likely to succeed , both academically and in terms of being as happy as they can be, when there is a strong team spirit between the school, the parents and the child.

When children are in some way 'getting it wrong', the best chance of them 'getting it right', and of being happier as a result, is when the other members of the team - the parents and the school - work closely together to help. I hope that any of who find yourself, at any stage, concerned about your child's behaviour feel that, if you ask the school for help, you'll find them supportive and helpful. They are always mindful of when it might be helpful to speak to you but don't ever wait...just ask your child's teacher, or anyone else you feel comfortable speaking to.

Kind regards.         Jon Hairsine                  Chair of Governors

I wanted to take this chance to remind all parents about how dangerous the road outside school can be at busy times like Drop-Off and Pick-Up.

Please talk to your child, no matter what year group they happen to be in about some road safety advice.

  1. Always find a safe place to cross – never cross in between two parked cars!
  2. Always stop at the side of the road and look left and then right.
  3. Always use your ears as well as your eyes to make sure nothing is coming.
  4. Always double check that it is safe before stepping out on to the road.
  5. Never cross the road while checking your phone.

Regards.
Jon Hairsine
