Welcome to our SEND page! This page is to help you to find  the information you  need to understand the ways in which we  support and include children with Special Educational Needs and those with a Disability  (SEND).

At Hunslet Carr Primary School, we pride ourselves on the fantastic provision we offer our pupils. Donna Bedlow has been our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) since September 2020,  and is supported in her role by Martin Lumb, the headteacher, and Elaine Boyce, the SEND Assistant. Our inclusion team is dedicated to supporting children and families with their learning and pastoral needs.  Our dedicated parent support worker, Lauren Dean,    helps families to support their child in school and at home.

One of the main ways we support our children is by giving them access to an NHS Speech and Language Therapist, who is able to diagnose any issues they might have and then work with the school to put in place measures of support. We run extensive language groups to develop vocabulary, writing skills, social skills and communication. We also have many staff trained in the delivery of individual speech and language programmes and these are provided 1:1 throughout the week

Another strength of the school is the way in which we can support children who have autistic traits,  that have been diagnosed or that impact their ability to learn. Miss Passey is trained to Level 3 in Autism awareness and works across the school supporting the children, giving advice and training to school staff, as well as supporting parents and carers with advice and resources to use at home.

We are  praised by outside agencies for the provision we provide and strive  to meet the individual needs of our children. A further strength is the recognition we give to parents and carers,  who know their children the best and whose views are always of great value to us.
