Attendance

What we know about attendance.......
Children with good attendance stand a far greater chance of reaching their potential than children with poor or very poor attendance. The table shows what Leeds City Council and Hunslet Carr Primary School consider good attendance to be.

Very Poor Attendance
The school will begin working with families whose attendance has dropped to 93% to support and challenge them to improve their child's attendance.
Where a family's attendance has dropped to 90% or below, we will work with Leeds City Council's Attendance Service to improve your child's attendance.

What should  I do if my child is ill or can not attend school?
Please ring the school on 0113 2713804 and choose the attendance option to let us know as soon as possible, so we can authorise any absences.

What should I do if my child has a medical or dentist   appointment?
Please try to arrange all appointments outside of school hours. Where this is not possible, please inform the school office on  0113 2713804 as soon as possible, so that we can authorise the absence  when evidence is provided.

What we expect from parents and Carers
  1. To ensure that their child arrives at school on time, properly dressed, with the right equipment and ready to learn
  2. To provide the school with a reason for any period of absence on the first day, or where possible, before the absence
  3. To accompany their child into school if they are late and to provide a reason for their lateness
  4. To work with school to resolve any problems that would impact on their child's attendance

What Parents  & Carers can expect from us
  1. That we will provide a quality education to  your children
  2. That we will give a high priority to punctuality and attendance
  3. That we will recognise and reward good or better attendance
  4. That we will communicate effectively with you concerning your child's attendance

Term-time Holidays
Can I take my child on holiday during  term-time?
  1. Parents and carers do not have a right to take their child out of school during term-time to go on holiday
  2. It is a legal responsibility of a parent or carer to ensure that once their child is of school age, that they attend school
  3. If a parent of carer takes their child out of school during term-time to go on holiday, the school will follow Leeds City Council's policy on term-time holidays and inform the council of your absence
  4. Leeds City Council will then issue you with a fixed penalty notice (fine) which will be £60 per child, per parent, per week
  5. For example, a 2 parent family with 2 children who go on holiday for 1 week will be fined £240
  6. In very exceptional circumstances, the Headteacher does have the discretion to authorise term-time holidays. These cases are extremely rare and will normally be linked to occasions   such as funerals, marriages or where a family works in an essential service such as the armed forces or for the NHS and can only take annual leave at given times
