Aims
Here at Hunslet Carr, we are scientists, historians, geographers, designers, musicians and artists. Our broad and balanced curriculum offers children the chance to develop skills that will prepare them for a successful life outside of the classroom. This means ensuring that we not only learn core skills in English, maths and science, but also learn to understand our place in the world with positive, caring attitudes and high expectations.

While we have the highest of expectations for our children within the classroom, this is only a part of the learning experience that we offer. We support, guide and inspire our children through excellent teaching practices and a breadth exciting learning opportunities, which have their foundations in the National Curriculum. These are adapted to meet the needs and interests of the children and families in our community. By working with the families and organisations in our local community, we hope to create a thriving school community, in which everyone is celebrated and valued for both their successes and failures.

To maximise our successes and to give the best learning experiences, some foundation subjects are taught as part of an immersive themed termly topic covering all areas of the National Curriculum. Our aim of this is to provide a curriculum that meets the needs, interests and abilities of all children. Reading and writing is also at the heart of all of our learning.

Our curriculum comprises of the core subjects – English, Mathematics and Science and the foundation subjects – Computing (ICT), Design Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education. Personal, Social and Health Education and Religious Education are also taught weekly.

We have a range of exciting extra-curricular activities both during and after school. As well as sports, music, science, art and cooking which are provided by members of the school team, we have external experts that deliver engaging sessions.

We encourage the children to take part in our fun activity days such as World Book Day, Roald Dahl Day, Spanish day and many other themed days where the children can dress up, create projects and experience a totally different school day.

Parents and carers are welcome to read our curriculum policies, and ask for any further information.
