Reception   Curriculum

In Reception we follow the Letters and Sounds programme to teach the children the letters of the
alphabet and use these graphemes to read and write words. Throughout the year, we cover phases
2- 4 of this scheme.

Topic

This term we will be exploring the modern day issue of plastics in our environment. We will be focusing on the book named ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’. Stanley the plastic bag who makes his way into the ocean and causes issues with his new friends.
As a result, we will be teaching the children the importance of recycling and would like to ask for your help. We will be encouraging the children to create and design their own litter pickers, musical instruments and animals out of our pre-loved junk.
We would appreciate any recycled items such as CD’s, corks, buttons, cotton reels, fabric scraps, plastic bottles, cartons and cardboard tubes, boxes, jar lids, tissue paper, sweet wrappers, foil and bubble wrap. etc. to help us become eco warriors.

Maths

This half term we will be exploring number bonds to 10 as well as 2D and 3D shape. Home learning challenges will be set on Tapestry, please continue to complete them with your children, as we love seeing what they get up to at home.

PE Kit

We will be doing indoor P.E every Monday this half term. We will be getting changed for PE every week, so please make sure your child has a PE kit in school on this day. Their PE kit can stay on their peg for the half term, if this is easier. This should include a plain white T-shirt and black leggings or shorts.

Book Bags

Please make sure your child’s book bag comes to school every day. We like to read with the children and we are unable to do so if their book bags are not in school. We try to change reading books at school a few times per week, so please let us know that you have read at home with your child by writing a comment or even just signing their reading records.

Tapestry App

Thank you for all your lovely contributions to tapestry. It is great to see what you are getting up to at home and the children love to share their experiences with their friends and teachers. Please feel free to comment and like the observations from school. We love to see what you think! If you are still struggling to access your account, please speak to a member of staff.

Water Bottles

Learning in our areas is very thirsty work. We would like the children to bring in their own water bottle which labelled for them to use throughout the day.

Wet Weather

Picture

The weather has been getting a lot colder and wetter. As we only have a small amount of wellie boots in school, we would appreciate it if children were able to bring in their own boots, which could be left on their peg. This would enable us to go and jump in muddy puddles, come rain or shine.
