@AcademyLc6

Our incredible Head Boy and Girl asking

Thank you for coming to visit us   @LiamCooper__
You were an inspiration to us all and taught us that life will not always be easy, but if we get our heads down, be resilient then anything is achievable.

It was great to see the children persevering with   @AcademyLc6   and Angus this morning. The children loved learning about tension, control and balance.
Our new Impossible is Nothing signs taken from ⁦@MarcusRashford   ‘s book You are a Champion. Our children deserve the best and to know we have the highest hopes for their futures.
Year 2 have been on an animal poo hunt. We told them that over night some animals had come into the playground and Mr Lumb has asked them to help clean up their poo (fake). We then dissected it to find out which poo came from which animal. They all loved it!

Year 2 have been using their knowledge of food chains by collecting and investigating (fake) droppings to figure out which mischievous animals made a mess on the playground.

Our Reading Champions enjoying their breakfast with Mr Lumb at McDonald's. It has been fab sharing what we have all asked for from Santa and which books we love reading. #impossibleisnothing

Riley R in Yr4 was so excited about science week he went home and conducted his own experiment to see which chocolate melted quickest.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  Our wonderful choir was out getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.

EYFS have been having lots of fun while learning

And so we start a new half term  with new safety rules and regulations, which all of the children are following with ease
Here are the next batch of our home learning shoeboxes. They are designed to give children engaging, open-ended challenges that they can do at home with minimal adult support. We are giving them to children who are self-isolating for 14 days.  The box includes a mix of self-initiated tasks and resources like Times Tables Rockstars. For parents whose first language is not English or who lack confidence in English and Maths, we hope the boxes will lead to great home learning.
Our tablets from the Government have just arrived. We will be adding them to our Shoeboxes this morning and delivering them to child self-isolating ASAP

The children settled in to the first half term, and produced some fabulous as well as having lots of fun along the way
Year 2 designed and made their own Bug Hotels for our Science and DT Topic #Bugstaycation    #It'sabugslife.
On Thursday 7th October, KS1 had author Chris Madeley zoom into our classrooms to read her amazing book ‘Cones and Cleaner Air’.

We had lots of impressive  lessons happening in our classrooms last half term. From Fluent in 5 to a little bit of Joe Wicks, fine and gross motor skills work to re-working traditional tales and phonics lessons to  times tables practice.
How are we helping families and children with their mental health?
As well as making sure all of our children are learning at the correct level, we are working hard to support theirs and their families’ mental health/wellbeing.

One of the things that can help us with this is knowing how the lockdown and school’s reopening has impacted on yours and your child’s mental health.

For Parents and Carers, we would appreciate it if you could spare 10 mins to take this Leeds City Council survey. The answers you give will help us to work out how our school might best support the wellbeing of parents and carers going forward. The link to the survey is:

Health and Wellbeing Service Parent/Carer Survey

For Parents and Carers of children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we would appreciate it if you could spare 10 mins to take this Leeds City Council survey. The answers you give will help us to work out how our school might best support the youngest children in school.
Health and Wellbeing Service Early Years Wellbeing Survey

These survey links will be open until Friday, 13th November.
The children in Years 3 – 6 will be taking part in the 10-minute survey in school, using the school’s iPads and once we have the results, we will know how to best support the oldest children in school.

Parent/Carer Meetings
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our usual events like open morning and Halloween disco this term due to current Government guidelines.
However, we are determined that we will hold Parent/Carer Meetings via telephone conversations. We will soon be sending out a letter to each parent/carer with a date and a time when your child’s teacher will call you to speak about how well they are doing in school for 10 mins. Each teacher is going to have to make 30 phone calls so we would appreciate you being available for the phone call and understanding when the phone call needs to come to the end.

 Christmas Nativity Plays
COVID-19 might be cancelling many things this year, but it will not be cancelling our Christmas Nativity Plays for children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The children will be getting their parts very soon and then rehearsing their lines and the songs in their classrooms. We will then be recording the Nativity Plays and broadcasting them via a platform like Zoom or Youtube. Look out for more information about these plays nearer the time.

School Birthday Parties
On the Friday before the holidays, each class held a birthday party to celebrate the children born in August, September and October. Our next birthday party will be held on Friday, 27th November to celebrate all of our children who were born in November.

The children do not need to bring anything into school to enjoy the party as food and games will be provided by the school.

Day Trips to Local Areas of Interest
As we move into our second half-term of the year, we are starting to consider taking the children on trips to local places of interest such as Temple Newsam or Middleton Woods. Each trip would be risk assessed for all the normal risks that are present whenever you take children out of school as well as the new risks associated with COVID-19. We would appreciate if you could please read and sign the permission slip attached to this newsletter to allow your child to take part in these local trips.

Could you get out of the pit?
Here are the little tools  we have to help our pupils cope when they are faced with a challenge  at school.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Open Morning. We hope you enjoyed seeing what the children are learning and we know they were excited to show you how brilliant they are!
A visit from the one and only Jim Gump

Jim Gump is on an incredible mission. He has already run nearly 14,000 miles (10,000 in the UK and 4,000 in the US), covering an average of 22 miles per day! This remarkable quest will eventually see him run 30,000 miles (and he has hinted he may not stop at that!).
Jim’s running isn’t without purpose. In fact, every mile he puts on the clock is in an effort to raise awareness of obesity among children and inspire kids worldwide to live a healthier, more active life. Today he visited Hunslet Carr to tell our children all about his journey.
School Council
The School Council have had a very busy week . They were invited to plant trees at Leasowe field by our school governor Cllr Paul Wray and they attended the annual Youth Summit at Elland Road where the focus this year was on Health and Wellbeing of our young people in the local community.

Parent Governor
We currently have a vacancy for a parent governor on the Governing Body, which is open to all parents and carers of children in this school. Being a governor will afford you the opportunity to help shape and guide the progress of Hunslet Carr Primary School.
According to our last Ofsted Report, we are a school that requires improvement and since that time we have worked hard to make the necessary changes for our children. These could not be achieved without the on-going active engagement of parents and guardians.
We are especially looking for people with any of the following skills; financial, ICT, human resources, school curriculum, statistical or strategic planning.
We would really welcome your involvement and would be very open to discussing how you might be able to add to our efforts. Please feel free to contact me through the school or email me on
[email protected].
If you wish to stand as a candidate for this rewarding and challenging position, please look out for a separate letter detailing all the information you will need to put yourself forward
